2 cr O00: RECIPE OF THE WEEK HOLIDAY APPLE PUDDING bi de cups chopped apples L/h cup shortening (part butter) i cup sifted Robin Hood Flour 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt Lye teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 3/4 cup granulated sugar i. egg, beaten de tablespoon cream Grease 6 to 8 individual moulds or custard cups. Quarter, core and peel apples (about 2 medium-sized). Chop finely and measure. Measure shortening and butter into mixing bowl and allew to stand to become soft, Sift together ' flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg, Cream shortening until fluffy, . gradually add sugar, mixing wntil creamy. Add beaten egg and beat well, Add dry ingredients and mix just until blended. Add prepared apples and cream, folding in lightly. Fill prepared moulds or custard cups half full. Bake in oven preheated to 350°F, (Moderate oven) for 30 minutes, Serve warm with Lemon Sauce, Brown Sugar Sauce, or Vanilla Sauce, Yield: - 6 to 8 servings. NOTE: For a more festive dessert, add 1/2 cup washed and dried raisins, 4 maraschino cherries, sliced, with chopped apple, 0-0-0 STORK CLUB Congratulations this week go to Mr. and Mrs, Frank Speziale on the birth of a son on June 28th, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Randa on the birth of a sen on July 8th, 0-0-0 Page 4 AROUND THE TOWN Sympathy is extended to Isobelle Craig who lost her Mother, Mrs. John Taylor of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. C. Crockford and Mr. and Mrs. H. Goodmurphy of Thessalon, Ontario are visiting with their families, Olga and Al Crockford and Norma and Len Crockford at Terrace Bay and Lyla and Lloyd Walker of Schreiber for the week. Mrs. Harvey Ballard and Francis of Kenora, Ontario arrived July 1st to visit for two weeks with her daughter and son- in-law, Sylvia and Louis Duquette. A group of friends entertained at the home of Mrs. F, Whitfield in honour of Mrs. Kowalik prior to her departure for Red Rock, Mrs. Doris MacKay presented a handbag and money tree to the guest of honour, on behalf of those present, following which Mrs. Fred Gould sang, "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep Thee", A delightful luncheon was served by the hostess assisted by Mesdames Gould, MacKay and Gauthier, Mrs. George McWaine of London, Ont. visited with her neice Ann Demas last week and Chris! sister, Dorothy Demas of Los Angeles, California arrived Monday to visit for the coming two weeks, Mr, and Mrs. Jack Lindstrom of Port Arthur were guests of the Mel Moores over the July 1st holiday. Pat Hunt of Sault Ste. Marie arrived Saturday to visit with her sister Hilda Valiquette until Thursday when they will leave together, along with Mickey, Jane and Colleen Valiquette for Eganville, Ont to spend the summer at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. P. Hunt. Mr. and Mrs. W. Baillie returned home Thursday from their trip to Toronto where they attended the marriage of their son Glen to Marjorie Bradley on June 26th in St. David's United Church. On their retum journey they visited with Mrs, Baillie's family, a sister Mrs. J. R. Matheson of London, a brother M. J. McFadden | in St. Catharinesand another brother J. A. McFadden in Long Branch. Mrs. H. Starink of Winnipeg is visiting with her daughter Connie Burella and family for a few weeks. Connie's brother Gordon Starink, along with Gordon Latvak of Winnipeg were also visitors at their home over the July lst holiday. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Don Boudreau last week were Mr. and Mrs, A. Van Rassel and Mr. and Mrs. H, Desjardins of Kapuskasing. (Cont. on page 7)
