Horticultural Society hosts Christmas SUNDRIDGE: On Sunday afternoon, December 11th, the members of the Sunridge Horticultural Society staged their first Christmas Exhibition/CompetUion. The presentation entitled 'Christmas Fantasies' featured numerous imaginative and creative entries including wreaths, decorations, and centrepieces in theme with the festive season. The setting for the showing was the auditorium of the Sundridge Community Centre which was decorated for the event with green garlands and a decorated Christmas tree, which was donated by the Village of Sundridge and decorated by the staff of the community centre. Winners in the classes open to Senior Horticultural Members are as follows: Wreath of natural materials: 1st, Norma Thornborrow; 2nd, Joan Bisbee and Honourable Mention, Liz Trolove. Wreath constructed from cones, pods, seeds etc.; 1st Joyce Lang; 2nd, Pat Lee and Honourable Mention, Liz Trolove. Wreath of synthetic material: 1st, Liz Trolove; 2nd Lois Dellandrea and Honourable Mention, Joyce Lang. Door Decoration: 1st, Iiz Trolove; 2nd, Pat Lee and Honourable Mention, Norma Thornborrow. Dinner Table Centrepiece: 1st Dorothy Grosvenor; 2nd, Liz Trolove and Honourable Mention, Lois Dellandrea. Christmas Tree Ornament: 1st, Melanie McCreary; 2nd, Amanda Lee; 3rd, Karen Abernathy. Crazy Christmas Creature: 1st, Jenny Webb. Nativity Scene: 1st, Amanda Lee. Christmas Glow Centre- piece: 1st, Bonnie Milne; 2nd, Onalee Webb, 3rd, Sarah Abernathy. Christmas Corsage: 1st, Onalee Webb. Of special interest were the entries by the Sundridge Guides and Brownies. These categories were organized by Pat Lee, Chairman of the Junior Horticultural Section, and Norma Thornborrow. Entries were made under the direction of the Guide and Brownie leaders, assisted by volunteer horticultural members. The winners in the classes open to Guides and Brownies are as follows: Christmas Corsage: 1st Terry Short; 2nd Jenny Webb; 3rd Brenda Scarlett. Hobby Dough Tree Ornaments: 1st, Rhonda Sarginson; 2nd Amanda Lee; 3rd Melanie Webster. Christmas Cards: 1st, Melanie McCreary; 2nd Alanna Greib; 3rd Megan McKee. Family Entry: A decorated Gingerbread House: 1st, the Doug Webb Family. The afternoon showing was officially opened by Elgin Schneider, Keeve of the Village of Sundridge. Society President, Helen Copeman commended the co-conveners Pat Lee and Norma Thornborrow for their efforts in making this event possible. She thanked the exhibitors for making the show a success by creating almost 400 individual entries which drew comments from those who attended on Sunday afternoon. She made special mention of the 25 wreaths in the wreath categories. The door prize of a Christmas Candle was won by Herb Dellandrea. Display depicting Christmas Carol or Song: 1st Kathy Sylvester; 2nd, Liz Trolove and Honourable Mention, Helen Copeman.
