- The exterior of 224 Jones Street East, the home of George and Elizabeth Carter. When this photograph was taken in 1905, both Carter parents had died and their daughter, Charlotte Carter Rice who had been living in this house with her husband, Henry Lincoln Rice, and her widowed mother, wanted to move elsewhere as she missed her mother.
For a short period of time, the house was rented to Miss Day who operated a boarding house for young men who were respectable clerks or professionals. The Rices later returned to live on Jones Street.
This photograph includes Miss Day, standing at the back behind the screened doorway, Lorne Eedy (seated at extreme right), Fred Lofft (standing second from left and looking very young) and W. N. Harrison, standing third from right.
It shows some interesting architectural details of the entrance and the east-facing veranda that have been lost on this well-preserved house. - Notes
