He is pictured here posed as though we have just caught him while he's been reading. He has long sideburns that just go slightly under his chin to form a bit of a beard.
The Ewing and Co. photo studio existed in Toronto between 1870 and 1874, which would place this photo somewhere in that time. - Notes
