- Description
- A photo of a bull owned by Hooper Dairy in 1965. The bull is brown and white and is being led by a man in a blue shirt.
In 1929, Edgar Hooper assembled a herd of Jersey cows and began a dairy and milk delivery business in the community, calling it Hooper's Dairy. He later died in 1932, leaving the farm to his three sons, Earl, Wilbert, and Harold. The brothers bought their first Holstein cows in 1938 and continued selling milk to the surrounding schools and communities. They also raised mink. The farm became known as Thames Crest Farms and their cows were frequently among Canada’s best. The dairy operations eventually spanned 3 farms and a total of 325 acres.
In July 1960, Hooper Bros. Ltd. celebrated its 30th anniversary in business. By 1976, the dairy had been sold and a series of “barn-clearing” sales took place. Much equipment was sold but the Hooper brothers continued to manage their cattle and mink. - Date of Original
