Description
A photo of the opening of the St. Marys Curling Club in 1963. Here, we see a woman who is preparing to cut the ribbon and officially open the club. She has a pair of scissors in her hand and is wearing a fur coat and semi-formal attire. Behind her, there are a group of people who are watching the event.

From https://stmaryscurling.ca/:
The first curling club in Canada was in 1807 in Montreal. The first official match was held in Guelph in 1866 against a team from Woodstock. At that time, the club facilities were simply a modest shack beside the River. Later, in 1880, 3 prosperous residents built an enclosed rink for $4000. However, in 1943, the building was closed and the lot was sold due to roof weakness and potential collapse.

In 1963, the St. Marys Curling Club was opened when the St. Marys Golf Club worked with local citizens and developed a new facility to serve both golf & curling. Then, in 1997, the St. Marys Curling Club received notice that the current facility would no longer be available for curling. So, after much dedication, the Lind Sportsplex was built and the St. Marys Curling Club has remained there ever since.
