Description
This is an image of the St. Marys swimming Quarry, looing towards the diving cliff. In this image, an individual can be seen jumping off the cliff.

Quarrying was a major industry in early St. Marys history, but in 1920 the quarries closed because there was no longer a demand for stone. By 1930, all machinery had been removed from the two quarries on either side of Water St. and they were allowed to fill with water, immediately making the quarry a popular place for swimming. However, it wasn't until 1945 that the Town purchased the property and officially opened the east quarry as a public swimming pool in the summer of 1946. The Quarry has been a popular place for locals to swim ever since.
