Description
This is an image of St. Marys, looking north from Andrews' Tower. In the background, you can see both the First Presbyterian and Holy Name Roman Catholic churches.

The First Presbyterian church was built in 1879-1880, using money from parishioners as well as labour from parishioners so that they might have a building worth worshiping in. At one time, the First Presbyterian Church was one of two Presbyterian Churches in St. Marys. The construction of the First Presbyterian Church coincided with the construction of the other Presbyterian Church that once existed in St. Marys, the Knox Presbyterian Church. The congregations had recently split, and remained split until the 1950s, when they decided to merge. The First Presbyterian Church is now the only Presbyterian Church in St. Marys, as the Knox Presbyterian Church was torn down after the congregations merged. Some famous Presbyterians were: Agnes Knox (elocutionist and professor at Boston University) and Arthur Meighen (Prime Minister, Conservative leader).

The Holy Name Roman Catholic Church is a Gothic Revival style stone church that was built in 1892. This architectural style was commonly used in the construction of churches in Canada from the 1840s through the 1890s. The Gothic elements visible on this structure include the various lancet arched openings adorning the façade, pointed dormers on the roof, and quatrefoil window openings in the large round windows. Toronto-based Post & Holmes were the architects responsible for the design of the church. The laying of the stone was completed by local stone masons Patrick and John McFadden, David Fitzpatrick and John Keen.
