Description

This is a photograph of the stores on the east side of Water Street. The photograph was taken around the late 1970s, but the exact date is unknown.

Store names visible in the the photo include, from left to right: Coleman Optical Shoppe, Sir Joe Restaurant, Radio Shack, ?, ?, Canadian Tire.

Sir Joe Restaurant is located in the building that was once the St. Marys Post Office. The post office was built in 1908, and stayed in this location until it was relocated to Wellington Street in 1957. After the post office, the building was used as an armory, then became Sir Joe's Restaurant in the early 1970s, and was renamed to be called "Damen's Restaurant" in the 1990s. The restaurant that occupies the building now is Custom's House (July 2018).
