- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. Postcards like this were used commonly to communicate in brief messages, especially around the holidays. The postcard shown here is a New Year's card sent from Mitchell to St. Marys on 31 December 1909. Postcards reached their height in popularity in the mid-20th century, when postage was cheap and post offices were present in nearly every community. In Canada, the cost of sending a postcard domestically or to the U.S. was only one cent, and international postage cost two cents.
