- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. It shows the band of the 34th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), marching on "Power House Hill," on Queen Street East in St. Marys. The battalion formed on November 7, 1914 recruiting and mobilizing from Guelph, Ontario. It provided reinforcements to the Canadian Corps until it became the 34th Boys' Battalion in November, 1916. Since the word "Boys'" is not present on the pennants, we can date this photograph between November 1914 and November 1916. In July of 1917, the battalion was disbanded and perpetuated by The Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada.
