- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. This depicts a young boy's lacrosse team, many of whom are identified on the reverse. At this period of time, lacrosse was a more popular sport in Canada than baseball or hockey, appealing to both players and spectators. Hockey could not be played regularly in small communities with unreliable ice surfaces and unreliable weather for outdoor games, but lacrosse had many of the features that make hockey popular today - speed, action, and easily identifiable skills. Also present were the possibilities of violence and conflict.
