- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. This is a drawing of the St. Marys Town Hall by Colin McQuirk in 1977. The ‘new’ Town Hall of 1891 was built of St. Marys white limestone, trimmed with imported red sandstone in a Romanesque Revival style. It was designed by Architect George Wallace Gouinlock of Toronto. Built for an estimated $14 600, the stone facade and large bell tower rapidly became the trademark of the town. As well as being the seat of local government, the upper floor boasts a large auditorium with balcony and state, and is the site for many community gatherings.
