- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. This is a photograph postcard of the Quarry. It is summer and there are many people out enjoying the weather. There are many swimmers in the water and on the rafts. There are also a number of people sitting on the deck. Notice the high dive in the photo and the people lined up to jump off of it.
The swimming quarry provided stone for industrial purposes until the late '1920s when springs were encountered at the lower depths. After several years of pumping the water out of the quarry, it was eventually allowed to fill up with water.
Today, swimmers are no longer permitted to jump off of the high dive. - Notes
