- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. This is an image of Queen Street looking east and was taken from above ground level. The photo shows mainly the north side of the street. The photo was taken from the corner of Queen and Wellington Street.
There is a parade taking place on Queen Street, heading east, that extends past the old water tower. Farther up Queen Street seems to have a larger crowd on the street so it is possible that the people dressed in white at the front of the photo are the end of the parade. The sidewalks from Wellington to Church Street have a large crowd of observers on them.
The photo highlights the Andrews Jeweler building with its tower, the script and the carved stone window surrounds. From the angle the photo was taken one is able to clearly see the store sign of "J. Ready Fine Shoes" and next to it is "W. C. Box Groceries, Crockery, and Glassware." Farther up Queen Street is the front and tower of Town Hall. - Notes
