- This photograph was taken by local photographers Carter & Isaac in the early 20th century. A family of seven is posing in front of their brick farmhouse. The family appears to consist of parents, a mother and father, a girl and four boys. An older man with a beard is leaning on a wire fence surrounding the yard of the home. An older woman is standing in the gateway. A young woman is standing to the woman's left and to her left a young man is leaning on the fence. Three young boys are sitting along the fence by the bearded man.
The fence is lined with tall trees covered in ivy. The brick farmhouse has a tall, narrow front door with a transom window overhead. The house features flat arch brick headers over the door and windows and a cathedral style French window in the central dormer. A barn is visible in the background of the photo to the left behind the house. There is a split rail fence at the back of the property to the right of the house.
The Carter & Isaac company specialized in outdoor photography, focusing on houses and farmsteads in rural Ontario. William Webster Carter was the photographer and traveled by horse and buggy through the countryside with his camera and other equipment. His wife, Bertha Isaac, processed the glass negatives and made prints for sale. Carter & Isaac took photographs in the St. Marys area between 1902 and 1906 and briefly again in 1908.
This image is a contact print made from the original glass plate negative. The contact identifier number can be seen in the bottom corner of the photograph where Carter & Isaac have scratched it into the emulsion. The number is 1100. This photo is part of a collection of photos which appear to have been taken in the northern part of Oxford County. - Notes
- Condition: Excellent - Image is very clear. Image is very clear. No visible signs of oxidation. Minor emulsion deterioration along right edge. Small spot of unknown debris adhered to plate in upper left quadrant.
