- Description
- This photograph features a summertime scene of children swimming in the quarry in St. Marys. A large group of children are sitting on the swimming platform, and one boy appears ready to jump off into the water.
The quarry located in St. Marys, Ontario, is the largest outdoor swimming pool in Canada. It was once a limestone quarry until it was filled in with water in 1930, and purchased by the Town of St. Marys in 1945 to be turned into a public swimming pool. It remains to this day a popular swimming spot during the summer. - Notes
