- He was born in Bracebridge, Ontario, the son of Dr. Richard Ussher Topp and Mary Eliza "Birdie" (Beley) Topp.
Private John (Jack) Ussher Sowden Topp lost his life on Aug 8,1918 (age 21) at the Battle of Amiens in France during WW 1. He had been wounded twice before in battle.
He is buried at Cruxifix Corner Cemetery, Villers-Britonneux, Somme, France.
