- Description
- A white and navy blue jacquard coverlet woven in 1851 by F. Edward Graf. The pattern is double lilies (a variation on double rose) with bushes border. The warp (vertical threads) is white cotton, the weft (horizontal threads) is navy blue wool. The image shows both sides of the coverlet, the intricate pattern is visible on both. There is only fringe on the bottom. The cartouche in the bottom corners read "S.S. / *two 8 point stars* / 1851". This coverlet was made in two pieces and would have been stitched together. However, previous owners unstitched the centre seam reverting the coverlet to two separate pieces.
