- Description
- A red and green jacquard coverlet woven in 1859 by F. Edward Graf. The pattern is double rose with bird and bush border. The warp (vertical threads) is white cotton and the weft (horizontal threads) is red and green wool. The image shows the front and back of the coverlet and the intricate pattern is visible on both sides. There is fringe on all three sides but is wearing away. The cartouche in the bottom corners read "DOEBEL/ROSE/ *thirteen dots*/1859". There is a visible seam down the middle indicating this coverlet was made in two pieces and stitched together. Later Graf acquired a larger loom and coverlets could be made in one piece.
