- Description
- A white and navy blue jacquard coverlet woven in 1858 by F. Edward Graf. The pattern is double rose with bird and bush border. The warp (vertical threads) is white cotton, the weft (horizontal threads) is navy blue wool. The image shows both sides of the coverlet, the intricate pattern is visible on both. There is only fringe on the bottom. The cartouche in the bottom corners read "ELIZA / BETH / ROBINS / 1858 *eight point star – heart – eight point star*". There is a visible seam down the middle indicating this coverlet was made in two pieces and stitched together. Later Graf acquired a larger loom and coverlets could be made in one piece.
