Oshawa General Hospital School of Nursing
The Oshawa Hospital's School of Nursing was established the same year the hospital itself was opened, 1910; with the first class graduating in 1911. The first woman to serve as Superintendent (or Director) was Miss Elizabeth MacWilliams, who held the post until her death in 1938. Eventually the program was extended to a three-year course for women, with several classrooms and residence halls. By the 1970s, the demand had grown too great for the hospital to sustain, and several classes were moved into the Simcoe Building of Durham College. Soon after the entire program was moved to the college, and the Oshawa General Hospital Nursing School was no more.
