Notes
Hurricane Hazel is one of the most infamous storms in Southern Ontario history. On October 15, 1954, after it was supposed to have calmed down, the hurricane intensified and left a huge path of destruction throughout the Toronto area. The reconstruction cost Ontario $100 million, which is about $1 billion by today's standards. Besides the financial costs, the provincial government reacted to the hurricane by making amendments to the Conservation Authorities Act.
