- The 34th Battalion Band was created in 1866, and Col. Robert Samuel McLaughlin was a patron of the band for several decades. In 1968, the band cut ties with the battalion, and Col. Sam transformed the band into the Oshawa Civic Band, which still exists today. Concerts run regularly during the summer months at Memorial Park (Simcoe and John Streets).
