- Description
- Black and white photo from an aerial view of Malleable Iron Factory, Oshawa.
- Notes
- In 1871, Oshawa gave the Ontario Malleable Iron Co. Ltd. an incentive to open a factory in the area. This decision proved to be a valuable one, as the establishment of the iron works assisted in the industrial growth of the town. Jas. and W.F. Cowan opened the works in 1873. After a large fire in 1894 the plant was almost completely rebuilt (1898) and the company changed hands. The Ontario Malleable Iron Co. operated at least until the 1970s.
