24th November, 1944. Dear Friends: This is my first letter to you. I have from time to time send the cards enclosed in the cigarettes, acknowledging receipt of same but I feel that the time is ripe for me to commit myself to pen and thank you all personally for your kindness and to congratulate you all on the good work you are doing. We over here appreciate more than you know, everything you have done for us. Cigarettes and parcels tends to take one's mind off the more gruesome ways of war and in many ways lighten our loads no matter what they may be. I have from time to time seen many Oshawa boys in the forces and all have high praise for your work. I have no doubt, that they have written to you personally. I am at present in Holland and have been fortunate indeed to have seen the campaign from Normandy up to the present time. If and when I return I will deem it a pleasure to meet you all and perhaps be able to speak to you on life and conditions as I have witnessed them over here. Once again thanking you all for your kindness and consideration. I remain yours, Sincerely Harold Lesy F/LT. R.C.A.F.
