- Description
- Chief Red Dog presents Sam McLaughlin with Cree Eagle-Feather Headdress to commemorate the opening of a new General Motors assembly plant in Regina, Saskatchewan for the purpose of manufacturing the Pontiac line of vehicles.
- Notes
- Chief Red Dog of the Star Blanket Cree Nation presented the headdress to McLaughlin and made him an Honorary Chief, with the name Kitchie-Kahso-Kin-Esko, Chief Strong Arm.
Chief Red Dog was the grandson of Chief Wahpiimoostoosis (The White Calf), who was a signatory of Treaty 4 in September 1874.
The headdress was later a gift to the Oshawa Public Library from R. S. Mclaughlin upon its opening in 1954. It was on display in the Mclaughlin Branch Library for many years.
In August 2008, the headdress was returned to descendants of Chief Red Dog of the Star Blanket Cree Nation and is now on display at the First Nations University of Canada in Regina. - Date of Original
