- Black-and-white photograph of damage sustained during a fire at King and Simcoe Streets in Oshawa on 2 March 1944. In foreground is Bassett Jewellers, Vogue Beauty Salon, T. Hornsby Photography. In background on left is the north side of King street East, and Jury and Lovell Drug Store can be seen at 8 King Street East.
- Notes
- The Bassett Block fire (King and Simcoe Streets) occured on 2 March 1944. It took firefighters about 7 hours to contain the blaze, and there was approximately $125,000 in damages. Four families were left homeless after the fire (Oshawa Times, 12 Jan 1961).
