- Description
- This is a black and white photo of part of the interior of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer looking from the back right corner towards the front of the church.
The pews are decorated with white bows suggesting a special ceremony is scheduled. The pews take up most of the photo with the white alter in the background and pipes for a pipe organ on the upper left wall.
- Notes
- A white crest shaped banner hangs from the ceiling. The pipe organ seen in the photo was originally purchased from the Karn Organ Company in 1902 and installed in an Essex Methodist Church. In 1907 the Town of Essex was devastated by a nitroglycerin explosion at the railyard and the church was almost destroyed but the organ survived unharmed.
In 1909 the organ was reinstalled in the new Methodist Church but the elders were not satisfied with its performance and a new one was installed. The original organ was dismantled and sold to the Church of the Redeemer.
It was rebuilt upon it's arrival and was played in the church for over 50 years. - Date of Original
