Daryl Briggs, who now resides in Newmarket, is largely a self-taught artist, who works in a variety of media, including pen and ink, watercolour, and pencils. He specializes in doing portraits of people’s homes, especially in Victorian architecture.

In 1987 the Newmarket Public Library (NPL) was very fortunate to be the beneficiary of a donation intended for works of art and books relating to art by Dorothy and Jim Bowman and their daughter Carol Bowman. The funds were invested in trust for this purpose until 1998 when a collection of works of art was selected and purchased to form a permanent gallery in the Library.
