- Susan McGillivray was born in Yorkshire England, moved to France and immigrated to Canada and has lived in Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto and King City.
While working at the Medical Illustration Department of the Montreal General Hospital she sold her paintings privately and to RCA Canada and General Aviation Services.
With the birth of her daughter, Susan put away brush and palette to resume in 1977 when she moved from Vancouver to Toronto. The ensuing fifteen years was a time of study and of work geared to expanding her artistic horizons. In 1992 Susan moved to King City North of Toronto and began to paint full time. Susan now lives in Vancouver and is represented by Ateliers Dimension Plus for most of Canada and USA. The Rose Gallery in King City is her exclusive representative for York Region Ontario.
Her work is also part of numerous private collections in Canada, France and The United States.

- In 1987 the Newmarket Public Library (NPL) was very fortunate to be the beneficiary of a donation intended for works of art and books relating to art by Dorothy and Jim Bowman and their daughter Carol Bowman. The funds were invested in trust for this purpose until 1998 when a collection of works of art was selected and purchased to form a permanent gallery in the Library.
