- Artist's statement: "Painting started as a hobby when I was about thirty years of age. I have taken almost every art course given in our area and a number elsewhere, and continue to do so. These courses covered everything from Art History to technique in the tactile use of different mediums.
My hobby soon became an obsession.
In 1986, I decided to devote all my time to my “artistic” voyage. In 1998 I was accepted into the Canadian Society of Artists, and my work can be seen in many public and private collections.
Here lies mighty Lake Superior, beautiful and awesome…her shore and stones are unbelievable in colour and design. These have been my inspiration and my energy. They are magical and mysterious. Locally some people call me, “The Rock Lady”, a name that I enjoy and hope that I deserve.
My voyage continues!"

- Donor
- In 1987 the Newmarket Public Library (NPL) was very fortunate to be the beneficiary of a donation intended for works of art and books relating to art by Dorothy and Jim Bowman and their daughter Carol Bowman. The funds were invested in trust for this purpose until 1998 when a collection of works of art was selected and purchased to form a permanent gallery in the Library.
