- A black and white print taken from an original card mounted photograph of the crowded interior of the Rowntree Grocery Store at 340 Richmond Street. On the left side of the picture is a neatly dressed gentleman with a bow tie and an assistant behind the long wooden counter. The main counter has a glass topped display case and various weigh scales. The wall behind boasts well stocked shelves and advertising posters promoting various food stuffs. To the right, a clerk wearing an apron, appears to be slicing meat.

- This precisely posed photograph gives us a view of the Rowntree family's grocery store circa 1900.

- On the reverse of the original card mounted photograph is scrawled in large cursive: Geo Rowntree. An accompanying card with the original reads: The Rowntree Grocery Store. Mr. Rowntree at front left. Mr. Chester Rowntree on front stool. Dr. L.G. Rowntree at back counter. 2 clerks. Richmond St. 2 doors from York about 1900.
