Description
A black and white print showing Canadian National Railways Engine Number 6400 which pulled the royal train on its tour through Southwestern Ontario and the crowds waiting on either side of the railway tracks to welcome King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Glencoe, Ontario on June 7, 1939.
Notes
According to CN Lines Magazine Volume 12, Number 3(www.cnlines.com), the 12 car Royal Train which carried the royal couple on their 30 day tour was put together by the CNR, CPR and the Canadian government. The cars were painted royal blue with gold outlined window bands of aluminum leaf and gun metal roofs. The engines used to pull the train on various legs of the journey were adorned with the royal crest. The engine in this picture, No. 6400 is preserved at the Canada Science & Technology Museum in Ottawa.
