- Description
- A print of a black and white charcoal drawing of Patrick Flanagan.
- Notes
- Patrick Flanagan came to the location of what is now Clandeboye in May, 1844. He built the first hotel and store there and for several years the hamlet was known as "Flanagan's Corners".
He was born in Ireland about 1802 and died March 3, 1865 at age 63.
This appears to be a photograph of a charcoal drawing. The photograph is credited to Frank Cooper. The drawing may have been done ca. 1840-1850 and the print made sometime after 1868 when Frank Cooper started his photography business.
This is the same portrait as used in the Middlesex County Atlas, printed in 1878 by HR Page. Find it on p. 68.
The map shows the location of Clandeboye, Ontario.
"Chap V" in the inscription refers to chapter V in the book "Sure an' this is Biddulph" by Jennie Raycraft Lewis, which contains this portrait and a write-up about Patrick Flanagan.
