- Description
- A black and white studio portrait of Robert Summers in his later years.
- Notes
- This is possibly Robert Summers (1810-1897) who was a farmer most of his life but spent a few years as a merchant. In 1869 he established a knitting shop in Byron and installed the first knitting machine in this part of the country. ("160 Years of Byron History" by Roy Kerr, p. 21 and "Delaware and Westminster Townships" edited by Jennifer Grainger, p.599)
This is a copy of an undated cabinet card photograph. Judging by the age of Robert Summers, it is likely that this portrait was taken ca. 1880-1890.
The map shows the location of John Cooper's studio when he was at 440/442 Clarence Street.
The photographer's imprint, including the logo, appears on the front of the card. There is a handwritten inscription on the back.
