- Description
- Black and white photograph of a crowd of people gathered on the lawn of Ward's Hotel on the bank of the Thames River.
- Notes
- Mike Ward built this summer hotel in 1880 on the north bank of the Thames River, a little east of the Springbank pumphouse. It immediately became the centre of summer sports and was a regular port of call for all steamboats operating on the Thames River at that time. The city purchased the property in 1896 and the hotel was demolished in the spring of 1923. (LFP March 23, 1923)
This photograph, taken in 1880 at the time of the Thames Regatta, is similar to another photograph appearing in this digital image gallery. This particular view, being narrower, doesn't show the boats on the water, as can be seen in the other wider view. There is a handwritten inscription on the back of the photograph. - Inscriptions
