- Thomas Scatcherd was a well known and respected London lawyer and politician. He was called to the Bar in 1848 after which he opened his law office in London. In 1861 he entered politics. He was serving in Parliament as M.P. for the North Riding of Middlesex when he took ill and died in Ottawa after a short illness on April 15, 1876, at the age of 52.
