In the photograph she looks as if posing for a "sweet 16" look which would date the photograph at 1899 approx.

Mai Lancaster Mathewson , Daughter of Henry Mathewson and Annie Lancaster Newcombe, and grand-daughter of J.J. Lancaster, has the spelling of MAI not MAY at the date of birth and at her death.
When I first looked at this image I guesstimated that Frank Cooper was trying to get a "Sweet 16" look with the pose and that the design of his card was from the early 1900's.
One census gave her date of birth as Dec.10 1883.
When Mai marries George Copeland on the 22 August 1911,her age(if we accept this census date) would have been 28.The marriage document does not show her date of birth only that George was 25.Various ships manifests later, show her as being 2 years younger than George. These manifests give her birth date as in 1887, 1888,or 1889.
So my theory is her DOB was 10 Dec.1888,this was a Sweet 16 look and that if 16, the picture was taken in 1904.
