Description

A glossy black and white print of buildings on the south side of Dundas Street west of Richmond Street. Three businesses, F.C. Wheeler, Elliott Bro's. and R. Walker & Sons, can be seen with merchandise displayed outside. Several people and a horse and wagon are standing in front. The last three letters "MONS" (of the name Simmons) can be seen on the sign of the Lashbrook & Simmons shoe store to the left of F.C.Wheeler. The address number, 157, appears beside the name F.C. Wheeler and above that, on the building, are the words Saddlery and Carriage Hardware. An ornamental lion rests on the ledge above the doorway of the R. Walker & Sons store.

Notes

The inscription, not seen on the digital copy, was added to the original photograph in 1939.
Although the inscription states that the photograph was taken about 1890-5, a more accurate date would be 1887-1889. The London City Directories, from these years only, show these three businesses located side by side at this location. PG L39
