- Description
- A glossy black and white print of students and teachers posed in front of the Union School.
- Notes
- The inscription at the bottom of the photograph was added in 1939.
In 1890, the now obsolete building was demolished and part of the site was subdivided into building lots. The London Free Press later said of the Union School that “the bricks that made up its walls are now the under layer of the walls of more than one fine residence in the city.” Alexandra Public School opened on the site in 1911-12. PG L15 - Inscriptions
- The old Central, or Union School, King St., between Waterloo and Colborne Sts. The block of land bounded by King, Waterloo, Colborne and York Sts. was purchased by the London Board of School Trustees in 1848, and the Union School erected thereon in 1849. After having served its purpose, the old school was torn down in 1890, and the land broken up into building lots. Nicholas Wilson, familiar figure to generations of Londoners, taught here for many years. About 1875.
