- A glossy black and white print of a group of men gathered at the corner of Dundas & Talbot Streets in front of The City Hotel. Several buildings can be seen to the right of the hotel along Dundas Street and to the left of the hotel along Talbot Street.
- Notes
- The inscription at the bottom of the photograph was added in 1939.
The address for this building was 103 Dundas Street and 399-401 Talbot Street (Historical Sketches of London from Site to City by Nancy Tausky, p. 64).
This building was originally constructed as the Hope Hotel in the 1840s by William Balkwill (Downtown London, p. 94). It burnt down in January 1865 and was reopened in September 1865 as the City Hotel (London Free Press, September 16, 1865, p. 2). It was renamed the Belvedere in 1871 and later the Talbot Inn. The building was demolished in 2001 and its facade was recreated on the John Labatt Centre which opened on the site in 2002.
