Schofield, Ira

Ira Schofield (ca. 1776 — Nov. 8, 1864), a brother

of Peter Schofield (July 16, 1786 — June 21, 1860),

was born in the Province of Connecticut and came to

Upper Canada in 1800, settling in Leeds County with

his family. He was a captain in the Second Regiment

of Leeds Militia before coming to London Township.

In October, 1818, he was located on Lot 4, Concession

IV, and must have engaged men to assist him as by

December he had erected a house and cleared twenty

acres. In June, 1819, his family joined him. Until
