league teams included the London Atlantics in 1877,
the St. Thomas Atlantics in 1878, and Bay City in 1882
and 1883. First broke into the majors as a pitcher
with the Philadelphia Quakers in 1884, pitching six
games. Returned to the majors six years later with
the Cincinnati Reds as an outfielder, and batted .312
in 127 games for them.
