- Notes
- Construction of the Dominion Public Building (also referred to as the Federal Building) began in 1935 and was completed in 1936 as part of a depression era work project. London photographer Arthur Gleason was commissioned to document the construction process. It was designed along the same lines as the Rockefeller Center in New York, by T.W. Fuller, chief architect for the Department of Public Works, 1927-1936 and is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in Canada. When completed, the Dominion Public Building was the tallest building in London. It officially opened September 26, 1936.
This building is located at 457 Richmond Street, the location shown on the map.
