- William Bowman, born March 20, 1820 in Liverpool, England, died August 6, 1909 in Port Stanley, Ontario. He came to Canada in 1853 to become mechanical superintendent of the Great Western Railway then under construction from Windsor to Niagara Falls. In 1855 he was appointed superintendent of the London and Port Stanley Railway, retiring in 1875. As an alderman, he served for a time as chairman of finance for city council.
