- Helen Alexandra McMillan was born in Petrolia, Ontario April 11, 1892 and moved with her family to London in 1898. She graduated from University College, University of Toronto in 1916. She was a reporter and editor for the London Advertiser and later became the Women’s page editor for the Toronto Star. During the second world war she handled the Star News Service and sometime after the war she worked on the Star Weekly and then became the Star librarian until her retirement. (Source: a letter from Helen’s great niece, dated June 28, 1985, which is housed, along with some of Helen McMillan’s papers, in the London Room archives.) Helen died October 26, 1984 in Toronto and her ashes are buried in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery, London.
A guess has been made that this undated photograph was taken ca. 1925-1930.
The photographer's stamp is on the back of the photograph. The map shows the approximate location of 322 Queen Street West, Toronto, the first location of Alexandra Studios. - Inscriptions
