- Description
- A card mounted group portrait of holiday makers at Port Stanley, Ontario taken by John Hood, London photographer.
- Notes
- Although this group was not identified it would appear from other identified portraits done by John Hood that are included in the London Public Library Image Gallery that some of the subjects in this shot are members of the Hood family. The gentleman in the foreground may be the father of the photographer, Frederick S. Hood surrounded by the youngest sons, from the left, Robert, Frank and to the right of his father, William. The two fellows in white shirts and matching suspenders may be sons, Frederick, Jr. and George Hood. Possibly, the woman standing on the right holding a lantern and playfully pretending to brush the hair of the young man beside her is Sarah Hood, the mother. Thomas Hood the eldest son may be the fellow at the middle back smoking the pipe. This speculation is bolstered from data from the 1881 and 1891 Ontario census records for the Hood family.
Photographer John Hood was active in London and area from the 1880s until 1891 when he left to settle in British Columbia. He was in business with his brother, Thomas at 202 Dundas Street, London, Ontario.
The exact location in Port Stanley is unknown so the map location is not precise. - Inscriptions
