Description
A photograph of the large hotel at Elginfield. Above the main door is a sign "Thos Creighton Royal Hotel". People stand at the doorway and a horse and buggy is hitched to a post in front.
Notes
Ryan House at Elginfield, built in 1855 by William H. Ryan, was once one of the largest hotels in rural Ontario. It was situated on the southeast corner of present day Highways 4 and 7 (Richmond Street and Elginfield Road). The hotel later became the Union Hotel operated by Matthew Glass and, later still, the Royal Hotel operated by Thomas Creighton.

The first City Directory to list Thomas Creighton as proprietor of the hotel was 1894. He died December 23, 1910. Therefore, it appears that this undated photograph, showing his name above the door, would have been taken ca. 1894-1910.

There are two handwritten inscriptions on the back. One of the inscriptions refers to the book "Llyndinshire - London Township" by Jennie Raycraft Lewis.
