- Notes
- This undated photograph was taken by John Hood perhaps ca. 1884-1891. The photographer's stamp is on the back. There is also an inscription, handwritten in pencil, on the back.
John Hood was an early London photographer with a great love for the outdoors. In a June 20, 1947 London Free Press article titled "Recalls Shooting Turkey at Dundas and Richmond" the then 83 year old John Hood reminisces on a return visit to London from his home in British Columbia about his past adventures as a Riel Rebellion veteran and his early life in London as a pioneer stage mechanic, picture framer and photographer. He enlisted in the 7th Fusiliers in 1884, traveling to Saskatchewan the following year to serve in the Rebellion. John Hood returned to London but left again permanently in 1891 to settle on the west coast. This helps to date the photograph ca. 1884-1891.
The exact location of the camp is not known but shown on the map as west of Springbank Park. - Inscriptions
